I thought I've been feeling the baby kicking for several weeks but always doubt myself it can be gas. However, I felt a distinct kick yesterday when I was holding Ky-An. She gave me a hard kick that startle me! I guess she doesn't want her brother on her living space..hehe. I know it's a bit early to feel it but maybe since it's my third baby, my uterus is thinner and I can feel her more.
I definitely feel her kicking more and more everyday and am excited each time. Hieu asked if he can feel her too and I said no..not for a while. He proclaimed how unfair that was...funny how he doesn't remember much when he's been through it twice before. I can't wait until I can feel her move constantly, it hurts sometimes but it's a great feeling knowing your baby is healthy. I will probably come back and complain about how I can't sleep because this baby is constantly kicking me but that won't be for a while.
Life with two young kids are at lightning speed. This is my attempt to capture some life moments before they are forever gone.

It's a girl!!!!!!
I had my doctor's appointment today. I was preparing myself for the worst like the doctor telling me my baby hasn't grow or that there was not heartbeat. I know it's negative but that's how I prepare myself for bad news. I find that if I just think of the worst, it won't be so devastating if it's true and it's be great if it's not. I guess that how I learn to deal with things.
Anyway, luckily I was wrong and the baby is perfectly fine!!! I haven't gain any weight with this pregnancy yet, which is a good thing because I have lots of extra baby weight from the previous two already. I hope that because Ky-An is keeping me on my feet and that I am watching what I eat more so I won't be as out-of-control in the weight gain. Everything is measuring on target, the doctor is pretty happy. She measure the baby's arms and femur and they all measure 14 weeks, 2 days.
I asked if we can tell the sex of the baby and she said we'll try. At first she ask if I'll take a maybe and I said sure. She then look some more and goes..I think I can tell, oh yeah..it's a girl! LOL. I told her we would've been fine if it's a boy also and she goes "I know you will". Somehow all my sisters had a strong feeling this time that it'll be a girl and so did I. That is so strange! We are going to get so many hand-me-down stuff from my oldest sister who has two girls. She's going to be a great addition to our family.
Hieu and I also decide to go ahead and do the quad screen test this time. Not that we will do anything to the baby if it comes back positive. I just thought if something is wrong, it's so we can prepare and educate ourself on the best way to take care of our baby. All that drama of birth and then to find out your baby is not healthy just does a toll on you emotionally. I don't want to be crying and dealing with it at the hospital, I'd rather do it all beforehand and prepare myself. Of course we pray everyday that our baby is healthy and we are going to hope our prayers will be answer.

Abnormal Pap Smear
My OB called me last week to let me know that my Pap Smear came back abnormal and they are sending me to an OB specialize in Pap Smears for further diagnostic. I believe they are going to do a colposcopy. The nurse tell me not to panic and that they don't know what it is yet but they don't think it's cancerous. They did an HPV test for me and it's negative and they said usually if the HPV is negative then it's unlikely that it's cancerous. I am taking the news much better than Hieu and my sisters. They are freaking out and keeps asking me when I am going to see the specialist, etc.
The nurse called yesterday and told me my appointment is Thursday at 11 and give me directions to get there. There is a lot of older patients there. Makes me sad that you start getting cervical or uteran problems as you get older. I got there at 10:40 and they called me to the desk. I thought they were just asking for my insurance card to make a copy but they told me my appointment is not until April 5th!! Apparently there's a miscommunication but it's embarrassing regardless. I don't know if the nurse didn't tell me the date and I just assume it's today or if I didn't hear her when she told me the date. Oh well, at least I know where it is not for next month.
Here's what I found on the net on what I have. I really hope it's nothing serious but I'll take it one day at a time. I am not going to stress out about it until I get a diagnosis.
AGC
AGC stands for atypical glandular cells. Glandular cells are cells that produce mucus and are located in your cervix or uterus. These results mean that some of your glandular cells are not normal, but your doctor does not know why. These changes are usually more serious. People with AGC usually have a higher risk for cervical cancer. Your doctor will probably want to perform a colposcopy to examine any irregular tissue.
What is a colposcopy?
A colposcopy is a procedure that allows your doctor to closely examine abnormal cells on your cervix. Your doctor may coat your cervix with a vinegar solution that causes any abnormal areas to turn white. Then, your doctor will examine these areas using a colposcope, an instrument like a microscope. A small piece of tissue may be removed for study in a laboratory. This is called a biopsy.

Things are fallen apart in our house!
There was a big storm on Monday night and the electricity went out for a second. We didn't know the damage of it until the next day. The controller for our sprinkler system was broken so Hieu had to go to Home Depot and get a replacement for it. Luckily he's quite a handyman so we only had to pay $60 for a new panel.
Then we came home the next day and found out our AC won't turn on. The one downstair where our bedroom is and where Ky-An sleeps. We had to sleep that night with the fan on full blast and the windows open. Thank goodness it's cool outside now or we will be sweating. However, it was so muggy and humid! That combine with the outside car and animal noises reminds me of Vietnam. That's how the nights are in Vietnam, you sleep with the windows all open but it's very humid.
Well we finally got one of Hieu's friend, an A/C guy to come out to look at the AC today. Turn out the controller for the A/C in the attic is broken. He put in a temporary one until our new part comes in. He's going to try and fix it before ordering a new one for us..who know how much that would be. Since he's Hieu's friend so we just had to pay him $100 so thank goodness for that.
I know these are just minor things but our house is only 4 years old and I feel like it's already falling apart. I am walking around wondering what would go next. I just hope it's nothing major.

Easter Party at Hieu's work
Hieu's company had an Easter party for the kids today. We took my nephew with us and he had a great time. My only complaint was that there was lots of kids there and they didn't have enough eggs for the egg hunt. In addition, they didn't divide out the age so all the bigger kids got all the eggs. Ky-An fell asleep right before the hunt but I think he may be trample on with that crowd. My nephew didn't get any neither because he trip right when everyone run in and the crowd rushed pass him. He was disoriented and didn't want to participate after that. Here are some pics from the event:
Ky-an and my nephew, Thien-Bao (Ethan):

My nephew feeding the animals:

Hieu think we look so similar, even the way we frown:

With the easter bunny:

Easter egg hunt. Check out the massive crowd:

My "little" guy conked out:

My nephew on the pony ride:

Look mom..a leaf!!

And finally..some pics of them in the bike trailer. Ky-An loves leaning next to his cousin and poke him.

Ky-An's new tricks
Ky-An has been doing a lot of funny things lately and seem to crack us up all the time. He wakes up everyday at 6a.m. (sometimes at 4) and just babble away even before he open his eyes. He then toss and turn and get on his stomach..with his eyes closed and his mouth talking away. He will then scoot over to dad and try to wake him up so daddy can take him outside and turn on Baby Einstein for him..LOL.
He also loves to growl and think it's hillarious whenever someone else does it. He likes to wave his arms up and down and growl like a gorrila. I think he learned it from Uncle Chi.
He hates to lay down for a diaper change so we always give him a toy to play with so he can occupy himself. I try to remember not to give him anything heavy because sometimes he'll drop it on his head or face and starts crying. Daddy tends to forget so I hear crying often.
He is not interested in his toys anymore but rather real things. He loves outlet plugs, pens, crayons, utensils, and rice scoopers. If you give him an open bottle of water and a cap, he can keep occupy for a long time just trying to put the cap back on. His face is so serious from intent concentration that it makes me laugh. After a while he'll get frustrated and throw it on the floor. He loves to throw everything on the floor.
He loves to eat everything we eat, especially bread and croissants. No more chao (rice porridge) for him. I think he's sick of it. He favorite food is Pho (Vietnamese noodle) or raviolis. He and I actually went to La Madeleine all by ourselves today and he's such a good boy sharing a Tomato Basil soup with mommy. He has also learn how to bite things instead of shoving whatever big piece in his mouth.
He would walk around if he's touching something, whether with his fingers or his back. Unfortunately, he still won't walk by himself with a far distance. He would let go and walk for a short distance if he can see where he's going and he will keep his eye on his destination until he gets there.
He loves his Baby Einsten and would get really annoy if you block his view of the TV. He would push you out of the way or try to get around you. If not he'll start growling and starts crying. LOL.
If he doesn't want you to hold him then he'll squirm until he gets down. He likes to walk with you holding his one hand. Everytime I do this, he'll start giggling and walk really fast.
He has an obsession with shoes and socks. If he finds a sock or his shoe on the floor, he'll take it around with him and guard it like it's his prized posession.
The other day he wanted to go outside so he starts clapping. Hieu starts walking towards the door and he got really excited and clap even more.
He's cutting another tooth at the bottom so that make it #8. Poor thing has been crying at night for the past week or so and I gave him some Motrin last night. I am not sure if it help because he still whine twice. Maybe I'll give him Tylenol tonight and see if that help. He seem to like Tylenol more. His canines are still protruding and want to come out. Hieu said the gums around it are like rubber, it goes out so much but the teeth won't cut through. I think after the canines then we'll just have to worry about the molars. We are done for a while after that.

The mom I thought I'd be...
I am a planner and I had a life plan when I was younger. We all had an idea of how we want to be and what we do with our life. Get married by 25, have my first kid before 30, be done by 35. So far that's working pretty well and I've beat all my deadlines: I got married at 22, had my first baby by 29, and plan to be done before 35. I also had a career plan that I am not following along too well: Make 50K by the time I am 25 and 100K by the time I am 30. The 50K part was not too hard to attain, the 100 by the time I am 30 is not as easy as I thought. I am still working on it. I probably won't get there until I am 35 or so.
I also had a fantasy idea of what kind of mom I'd be. I've always thought I'd be one of those super moms who can juggle work, baby, and a domestic goddess. Anything is possible when you are young right? I dreamt I would be a gorgeous mom (a MILF), skinny, stylish, and carting my kids around in high heels in my luxurious SUV. My hair will always be done and looks nice. All the men will drool over me and wish their wife have it together like that.
Well...I think my husband is the one looking at those super mom and wish I can be like that. I need a haircut 6 months ago and let's not even talk about style. I think I only managed to blow dry my hair when there's an extra special occasion; otherwise they are tied in a ponytail. I am doing really well if I manage to shower more than 3 times a week, lovely right? Clothes? I am still in denial and am "waiting" to fit back in my old clothes. I haven't been able to do that in the past 3 years! (But hey, I've been pregnant most of those times.) I don't want to buy many clothes that will fit me IN CASE I lose the weight and don't need them anymore. My outfit everyday is not what looks good but what I can fit into. If I am at home, I don't even want to make the effort to change out of my pajamas. Getting ready to go anywhere is just so much work. My make-up is concealer for my dark circles, powder, eyebrow pencil, eyeliner, and some lip balm. I came out of the shower yesterday and my sister asked why my eyes are so black! Sexy.
Let's not even talk about housework because it's embarrassing. The only clean up I do is run around to pick stuff off the floor before the cleaners come every 2 weeks. I haven't managed to cook for over a year. We usually do takeouts or have someone cook for us. Very sad indeed. I feel badly about that and wish I have the energy to cook. I am just so tired all the time, even before I was pregnant. I don't even do the dishes on most days. Hieu does the bottles everyday and my sister, him, and his little brother alternate doing the dishes while I lay on the couch watching TV. I can't even get out to go grocery shopping every week. Whenever it's time to go, I am too exhausted to do it. I've been writing a list and Hieu has been taking care of most of the grocery shopping and household supplies this past year. No domestic goddess here. That was BK (Before Kids). I feel like such a loser. Why don't I have more energy? Why am I always tired? Other moms can do all this and I can't even accomplish one task! I know I currently have an excuse but not this whole past year.
If I am not working at a government office and my boss is not my friend, I am sure I'd be fire a long time ago. I used to work at a Fortune 400 company with plans to pursue my MBA degree. Now all that is on hold until the kids are older. I slack off big time at my job. Most days I just sit there and surf the web or look at pictures of Ky-An.
This is not a pity-party, I am not sad about the kind of mom I turn out to be. I even surprise myself of how patient I am with Ky-An and how much I love him. I never thought I'd be such a nurturing mom who puts her kids above her life. I never thought I am okay with dirty diapers, poop, and throw ups. Hieu and I spend every spare moment with him and that's how we wanted it to be. I just wish I can do more as a mom and a woman. I wish I am able to manage my time to cook everyday. Or even be like those moms who prepare their meals in the weekends! I wish I can go places with Ky-An without having to wait for Hieu because Ky-An is too heavy for me to carry around. I wish I wouldn't feel so guilty taking the time out to pamper myself so I can look halfway decent.
I am not even a good pregnant lady. My friend just gave birth today and she was still driving around and taking her daughter everywhere with her yesterday. I can't drive during my last month because I get too big and am too short to sit all the way back. Plus I can't turn myself fully around to watch for traffic because my stomach is in the way. She was still happy and glowing, the tiredness doesn't even show on her face. She said she didn't even feel like she's pregnant! *Insert eye roll here*. Of course she also gave birth naturally with each of her child, this time without an epidural. I, on the other hand, never had an easy pregnancy. I get super exhausted by the end of the day and all I want to do is go to sleep or just lay there. I never feel good and I always get so big and uncomfortable early. My body just doesn't take pregnancy well. I wanted to cry when I first found out I was pregnant with this one thinking about all the things I had to go through again. She, on the other hand, was already planning to be pregnant again yesterday.
If I can't even get my act together for one..how the heck am I going to juggle two??!!

"Bebe"
The first thing Ky-An did this morning when he woke up and saw the TV in the family room was point to it and say "bibi bibi". He kept whining and won't take his bottle of milk. Hieu said no TV until you drink your milk. He finally took his bottle of milk and Hieu turned on Baby Einstein for him. Too funny!
Maybe we are teaching him a bad habit since we let him watch a little Baby Einstein every morning?

My niece's 1st birthday in Dallas
Friday night - All my sisters and our kids hanging out in the living room:

Birthday girl:

My nephew throwing a tantrum. It isn't normal if we don't have at least one of these...

She picked money and a book. I guess she'll be a rich academia.

She loves her cake:

Big sis trying to wipe her mouth for her:

My favorite pic of the two of them together. Can you believe they are only 1 1/2 months apart?

Trip to Dallas
I was really worry about Ky-An this weekend because I know he won't get as much nap and his schedule will be all mess up. Futhermore, we are staying at a hotel so I also worry he won't sleep very well. I tried to make it as comfortable as I can for him by bringing his pillow and his blankets. I also brought a flat sheet to put on top of the hotel bed (who know how clean they are right?) Luckily I can mimic almost the same condition as at home so he slept just fine. Plus mom and dad are right beside him so he feels secure. I have to admit, the bed at Holiday Inn is so much more comfortable than ours. I think it's time we get new mattresses.
Fortunately Ky-An did just fine on other aspect his trip as well and he loves hanging out with all his cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was tired because he didn't get to nap for as long but he was happy playing. The only bad part is that he was constipated and was crying when he was going on Saturday. I never seen him like that before and I felt so bad. I wish there was something I can do for him but I feel helpless. I just want to cry with him. Hieu held up his legs to "help things along" and I just caress his face and try to calm him while he cries. I was so glad when it was all done and over with (not to go into details). He was fine again after that. I was a bad mommy and didn't give him enough fruits and vegetables when we were traveling on Friday. On Saturday I sure make up for it and give him plenty of veggies. In fact he ate so much on Saturday, I think about 4-5 times, that he didn't even need milk for his naps! Maybe I should feed him like that and wean some of his feedings. We ate a lot and he eats when we eat..hehe. Everyone was so impress at how he'll eat anything and is such a good little boy. I am bless to have such an easy eater like his daddy.
All that vegetables paid off on Sunday because he pooped 3 times before 10:00 am! LOL. I don't know if Hieu just doesn't wait long enough until he's done or if he was just cleaning out his stomach. We were happy and relieved and he's doing better... and I am sure Ky-An was happy also. I thought he was done for the day but he did it again in the evening! Crazy kid. He was fussy in the car seat in the last 30 minutes or so and I thought he was just tired being in the carseat. Turn out his diaper was full..poor thing.
Okay I am done grossing you out. Hope you are not reading this while eating or anything. I am actually pretty mild compare to Hieu. He has no shame giving you all the details. I have to yell at him all the time for that.
I am so tired, pregnant people are just not meant to travel. Our trip there took 6 hours instead of the regular 4. We rented a minivan so my little sister, her boyfriend, my older sister, and my nephew were all in the car with us. We left after lunch and I was hoping the kids will nap for most of the trip but they never do as you wish. We had to take so many breaks so the kids can stretch their legs. I also have to keep leaning over to find stuff to entertain Ky-An that I was so tired and nauseous. I was SO ready to get out of the car by the end of the trip.
On the way back Ky-An slept a little more but he was so tired of the carseat at this time and I have to keep finding things to entertain him. I don't blame him though. He's an active toddler and has been restrained for so long. We brought a portable dvd player so I had some peace for 30 minutes (except for the constant whining from my nephew of..I want to see...Is it my turn yet?....I want to watch). I have to keep turning my head back to watch the road because I keep getting carsick. I came home with a throbbing headache and just feel like I've been run over by the car. I am going to go to bed to get some rest now so I can get up early and go to work. Double yuck!

Got sick..yuck!!!
I got sick for the first time during this pregancy. It's odd since I thought nausea is suppose to be over at 3 months. It was just Hieu and I for dinner tonight instead of the whole family consisting of my sister, her boyfriend, and Hieu's little brother. We decide to eat something good and Hieu got Saltgrass steaks to-go after I put Ky-An to bed. I must have eat too late or the baby doesn't like meat because I quit eating after 3 bites. I then went to take my prenatals and got sick afterward. Not a fun feeling at all! I am so glad this is the first time it happened and not like when I was pregnant with Lan-Vy though. I was sick several times a day with her for over 3 months. Yuck! I am so ready to get pass this stage.
Today is also a busy day since I have to pick stuff off the floor for the cleaners to come and clean. It doesn't sound like a lot to do but if you have dirty clothes all over the closet, clean clothes all over the family room, and toys everywhere else; it's a huge task. I was in a cleaning frenzy today for some reason..can it be nesting already? I decide to reorganize the pantry since it's been bothering me for a while. My sister came home, saw it and call me OCD. I think it looks very nice. :P I also clean out the fridge also. I threw away all the old food and took each shelvings out to clean them. They were getting crusty and it was grossing me out whenever I open the fridge.
After I was done with that and the cleaners left, I had to pack mine and Ky-An's stuff for our trip to Dallas this weekend. I was tentative about making Ky-An travel especially after he was so sick. My sister was really looking forward to all of us visiting so I didn't want to disappoint her, plus Ky-An seem like he's doing much better so I think he'll be okay. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day so I better go get some rest.

Modern vs traditional medicine
I've also notice there is a lot of discrepancies between modern medicine and traditional medicine, which is what I've been taught. For example, I've always been taught that if you are sick, you are suppose to bundle up. However, my doctor said I am suppose to dress Ky-An lightly so his fever can escape. It takes all my power this weekend to forget what I've learned all my life and let him "freeze" in shorts and a short-sleeve shirt.
I've also been taught to only wipe down a child's body instead of giving them a bath when they are sick. It's the belief that a bath or shower will make them cold and be more sick. However when Ky-An's fever was 103, our pediatrician said to put him in tub to cool him down and we did just that. So contradictary! If my mom know about any of this, she would freak! It's just strange to have to let go of everything you were taught your whole life and do something totally opposite for the good of your child.
We are also not suppose to have a fan or wind blowing at a sick child's face because it makes them sicker. Of course when Ky-An was having the fever, we had to turn on the fan in our room all night to keep him cool. I keep questioning myself and thought, should I turn off the fan? No, the doctor said to keep it cool..but what if it makes him sicker? I had to argue with myself about the treatment!

The sun shines again!
Has this ever happen to anyone? To write an entire post and it said error when you try to post it? Therefore, you lost everything you've written? arggh.
Anyways, Ky-An is doing much better. Thank goodness. He didn't have any fever last night and was a playful chatterbox today. Hieu and I keep taking turn kissing his head to see if it's warm. I think our lips are more sensitive than touching his head with our hands. We are relieved each time we kiss him and he's cool. I feel like a giant weight has been lifted off my chest. I am so so so glad he's doing much better and the antibiotics seem to be working. I am estatic to have my vibrant, mischievious baby back again.
I think I am a very appreciative person but everytime Ky-An gets sick, I am reminded of all the things I take for granted. It's strange how you don't even realize it. I guess that's what taking for granted means. The next time Ky-An babbles and gets into trouble, I am just going to be thankful that he's happy and healthy and is doing what any toddler should. I will not get mad whenever he fights sleep because that means he's feeling good and wants to play. The next time he wants me to hold him, I am going to hold him tight and not complain. I used to not mind holding him for a long time but he is getting heavier and my arms get numb after a while. I will remember not get mad the next time I have to chase after him or when he scream his head off for not getting to do what he wanted. He's only doing those things because is developing as he should and act like any other toddler is. I am just so so happy to have Ky-An back to his old self. I can't tell you relieved I am.

Heartbreaking
It's so heartbreaking to see Ky-An drooping like a limp rag all day. I don't know if it's the fever or all the medication he's on. All he did was sleep and hang limply on my shoulder, very very sad.
What is sadder is how he's so sick of all the medicine I have to keep giving him. I really break my heart to have to hold him down or to hear him cry whenever I give him some medicine. I know how terrible some of these medicine taste and even I get nauseous when I think of all the medicine he has been taking. We gave him so much Tylenol and Motrin over the past few days that he's sick of those too. Now whenever we give him any kind of medicine, he starts gagging and if I keep pushing it, he'll throw up. It's so sad to see him throw up because of something I gave him. Just now his temperature is back up so I had to go in and give him more Motrin. The only way I can sneak some in is when he's sleeping. He would swat the syringe away as soon as he sees it. He would also swat at it, pulse his lips really tight, and starts crying. If I try holding him down and let him cry while I give him medicine, he'll gag on it and throw it back up.
As I said the only way I can sneak some in is when he was sleeping. That's what worked so far but I think he had so much medication today that he has had enough. He saw the syringe in my hand even though he's sleeping and his lips pulse together tightly as soon as it touch his mough. It's so sad because he starts squirming this way and that to get me to leave him alone. He even burried his face in the blanket so I can't get him. I wanted to give up and leave him alone but I know I can't. He's having a fever and I have to give him some Motrin to help bring it down. I really want to cry seeing him hate it so much. I really wish I didn't have to do this to him. After several try, I manage to get most of the dosage in. I tried to give him the rest but he starts gagging so I left him alone because I don't want to push it and he throw it all up. I figure he getting most of the dosage is better than none. I hope he'll get better soon so I don't have to do this again!! This is not a very good experience at all. I worry about what I am going to do when I have to give him his dosage of antibiotics tomorrow. The dosage is a teaspoon and that's a lot! How am I going to sneak it in anything? I checked the bottle and this nasty is already cherry flavored! My poor baby. I am going to be the mean ole mom who gives him nasty stuff again.

It's Pneumonia!!!
I am officially the worst mom ever! I took Ky-An to the doctor today and he has pneumonia, that's what causing his fever!! I feel so bad, I should've just take him to the doctor on Friday and get him on antibiotics sooner. It's just that I've taken him in at least 20 times this year whenever he develop a cough, he's fussy, or if he gets a mild fever. Each of those time I get sent home with a "nothing is wrong with him, just a mild cold. He'll get over it." This time I thought it might be the same and decide to wait it out...what do you know, there is something wrong this time! Argghhhh!!! I feel so bad. I am going to spoil him rotten today.
I didn't get any sleep last night because he has a fever when he went to bed. We ran out of Motrin so I gave him some Tylenol. He was still warm the whole night and I stayed up to monitor his temperature. If it gets above 102, I was going to wake Hieu up to get some Motrin. Otherwise, I will get him get some rest. Luckily it never did but I keep waking up to check and make sure he doesn't get too hot. Every time he gets sick, I am so scare. It feels like I am living my worst fear over again, that he's being slowly taking away from me. I just want to stay awake and hold him for as long as I can.
As soon as 8a.m. roll around, I called the doctor for an appointment. We got one for 9:50 and I was so relieved. On the way home the poor guy was so tired from the fever, he fell asleep so I couldn't give him any medicine right away. He woke up with a temperature of 103.5. I freaked out and call the doctor again and they told us to give him some Motrin for the fever and then the antibiotics. If his fever doesn't go down in an hour then give him some Tylenol. So within an hour I had to cram in 3 different type of medicines. The antibiotics is so nasty it made him threw it up. I took a taste of it and even after I mix it with some juice, it's still so bitter! No wonder the poor guy cry everytime I give some to him and threw it up! To make it worst, I had to feed him food with the antibiotics or it'll give him an upset stomach. He wanted nothing to do with the food nor the medicine and I don't blame him. I am sure he's feeling nauseous from the fever but I had to make him eat some. I gave him his favorite Xiu Mai Bao and he ate some of it.
He fell asleep in my arms after that, didn't even take the milk that he loves. I held him in my arms for a while and keep giving him the rest of the antibiotics, a little at a time. That took about a hour to finish. After that I took his temperature again and it was still 100 so I gave him some Tylenol. He cry every time I put the dropper to his mouth and I finally force some in. I felt so bad but I had to make him take it so he can feel better.
He's sleeping peacefully right now. He's drenched in sweat even though I only dress him in a t-shirt and diaper with the fan on. At least that mean the fever is breaking and he is not so flush anymore. I just want my baby better and get my happy chatterbox back. I think the worst thing for a parent to do is watch your child being sick. I hate that feeling of helplessness and it brings back a lot of deja vuos feelings with Lan Vy. Please let my baby be okay!

Weird Pregnancy Dream!
My weird dreams are already starting..they are so graphic! I was exhausted by the afternoon from holding Ky-An plus he doesn't nap well if I am not there with him so I decide to take the afternoon nap with him. I had the strangest dream during that nap. I dreamt that the baby was doing somersault in my stomach but you can see my stomach changing shape each time she moves. It's like those cartoon stomach that goes left, then right, then up, then down..very strange. Then I feel the baby kicking, extending her leg out and then her arm straightening out, like she's reaching for something. You can see my stomach stretched out and see the outline of her hand and fingers clearly. I thought to myself, if she keep doing this, she is going to rip my skin. I reach down to hold her hand and look to see a little rip in my skin and see her a peek of her finger. Her hand looks like it's cover in pink vinyl, I don't know why. Maybe because I was thinking the baby in term of "she" the whole dream and that's why her hand looks hot pink. After that Ky-An start stirring and I woke up. Very odd dream and I am sure there will be lots of others.
Update on Ky-An
Ky-An starts stirring at 3:00 a.m. and wouldn't go back to sleep. I give him a kiss on his head and felt it burning. I immediately got up and got the thermometer to see what his temperature is. He had a high fever of 102 last night. I was so worry that I woke up Hieu and ask him to get me some Motrin and some milk. (Ky-An will freak out if I get up and go get it myself.) After fighting with him to take his medicine (it's not easy making a sleepy baby take the syringe), he went back to sleep. He immediately sweat afterward and his head cooled down. He woke up happy and chatty this morning so I decide not to call the doctor because I thought he's feeling better. Well I really regret it because he was whiney, didn't nap well, and didn't eat much all day. I feel like a horrible mom because I could've just take him to the doctor and make him feel better instead of letting him suffer until Monday. I usually follow my instinct but this time I think it's wrong. We spoil him like crazy because he's not feeling well. We let him watch his Baby Einstein more than usual and Hieu takes him out for a walk or drive him around when he's super fussy.
I held him so much today that I start having really bad cramps. I thought for sure I'll see blood when I got to the bathroom and miscarried. I drank some water, ate some crackers and lay down to rest. After I ate, I felt much better..thank goodness.
I am going to call the doctor first thing Monday, no matter what, and find out what's bothering him. I think it's his teeth because he'll stick his finger in it. Everytime he does so, he starts crying so maybe his canines are having trouble cutting through. It's been red and swollen for over a month!

My cranky man
Ky-An has been so fussy and clingy this whole week. I think his stuffy nose and cough cause him not to be able to sleep well at night so he gets tired during the day and is whiney. He wakes up crying every morning instead of his happy babbling self. He would literally climb on me and cling to me like static. Hieu can't even pry him off to give him his bottle of milk. If Hieu hold him, he'll go "me me" and look around for me while tears run down his face.
He is also back to crying a couple of times everynight and I have to go in to hold him and calm him down. His night cries are the saddest thing ever. His eyes are closed, his mouth droop down, his check puff up and dimpled (he has a strange dimple on his cheekbone like I do), and tears running down his face. I just want to laugh and desperate to calm him down at the same time. I just think it's so adorable when he's crying with his eyes still closed because he's so tired. I keep kising his puffy cheeks but he's not very happy at that either.
The only thing that would calm him down is his Baby Einstein and my singing. That made me feel good that he would be comforted and soothe by my voice. I really do love it that there is something of me that can calm my baby down and he can go back to sleep. I smile everytime I start singing and he would quiet down right away and start settling down. I feel like a super-mommy at that point. Super-mommy with the super singing voice! LOL
Hieu and I debate whether to take him to the doctor's today or not because he has a very slight fever and has been crying a lot. His head feels warm but his temperature is only 99-100 degree. He tug on his ears sometime when he's crying but he does that whenever he's tired also. Yesterday night after a waking up crying episode, I calmed him down and start poking him everywhere to see if he will start whining or crying..I got nothing. I was paranoid that he may have dislocate a join or has something broken so I was holding him and start squeezing and poking everywhere. He probably thought "what the heck are you doing mom?" I called the nurse at our pediatrician office but she was not much help. She basically said if we are concern then bring him in. Gee thanks.
I called my babysitter to check on his progress and ask her to call me if he is still fussy. She called me at about 2p.m. and I was getting up ready to get out to door to pick him up. Fortunately she called just to let me know Ky-An is doing well and play like normal so I won't worry. (Did I mention what a great babysitter I have? She carried him all day yesterday while he nap because she felt so bad that he can't breathe when he lays down.)
I decide that if he's still bad tonight then I'll take him to the doctor's tomorrow. Yes, they open on Saturday, isn't that awesome? That's one of the reason why I chose him. He's really great. I stop by Target afterwork and was met by a wailing Ky-An when I got home. Apparently he's super tired and daddy didn't notice to put him to bed early. He was too upset and my singing did calm him down but not long enough for him to take his bottle. We spoil him and turn on Baby Einstein so we can change him and give him his bottle. I gave him some prescribed cough medicine to help him sleep and some Tylenol. His canines has also been protruding for a while so it could also be what's bothering him. I don't know if he's getting better or if the Tylenol helped because it's been quiet so far. I hope I didn't jinx myself!
Oh, here's some funny pictures of Ky-An that Hieu took on his camera phone. Ky-An wanted to get on the bike of the two older girls at my babysitter's. He loved to sit on it and was so happy even though his feet can't reach the pedal!

Gee thanks.

Salted Eggs and Rice Porridge

I don't know why I like rice congee so much while I am pregnant and right after I gave birth. Not the ones with stuff in it like chicken, pork, or fish...just plain white rice congee. After my last two births, my mom would ask me what I want to eat and I always crave for rice congee with salted pork on the side. I started thinking about it the other and thought it would be good with salted egg also. Of course once I start thinking about it, I start salivating and had to ask Hieu to stop by and Asian grocery store to get me some. Being a loving husband who's used to my crazy cravings, he did just that and bought me a package of six. I cooked up some rice porridge and has been eating that with salted eggs for the past 3 days, lunch and dinner. I told Hieu if I keep craving this my blood pressure is going to be through the roof! I just had some this morning and it was yuuuumy! In other news, Hieu and I decided that we need to get a minivan before this new baby comes. We thought we can get buy with my Acura but after taking my nephew and Ky-An to the aquarium last weekend, we realize how desperately we need a bigger car. It was so cramped in the car with 2 car seats, even with my nephew facing front. He was also so close to the front seat that he keep kicking Hieu's seat while he drives. That's when Hieu goes, that's it..we need a minivan. We need more room between their seat and ours..haha. We won't buy one until I am in my late second trimester or third just to be sure. We are keeping my Sedan and trading in Hieu's truck for the minivan. Never thought I'd turn into one of those moms who drive a van but it's the most practical car right now.
We want to wait until the end of the year to get one because you get a better deal but since this baby is coming in September; I am not sure if we can wait 3 more months before getting a new car. We will try to find an older model that is brand new instead of this year's model because it's cheaper that way. The good way to do that is at the end of year when they are trying to get rid of last year's model. Oh well. My friend said her husband has good relationships with all the dealership in town and can get us a car under invoice so I hope we'll get a good deal regardless. Our top choice right now is either a Honda Odyssey or a Toyota Sienna. I've heard good and bad things about both but we'll need to test drive both to see which one suits us best. We still have time.

My Lazy Sunday
Ky-An is cranky today because of the whole sleepless weekend. I am going to say I thought, but I hoped he would sleep in this morning but of course that didn't happen. He woke up at 6a.m. and as usual, Hieu is an absolute angel for getting up with him and take him outside so I can get some rest. I really don't think I can go through this third pregnancy if he's not there. (That's an ironic remark becaure if he's not around, I WOULDN'T have this third pregnancy..haha.) Everytime I sleep without Ky-An, I think I can get into my REM sleep because I wake up so exhausted. I feel like I have the flu. I can hardly lift my arms up and I can open my eyes to get up no matter how hard I try. At about 8 o' clock, Hieu brought Ky-An back in because he's ready for his morning nap. I did my chasing him around the bed routine while pretending to be asleep while keeping half an eye on him to make sure he doesn't fall off the bed. He had a good nap in the morning and woke up happy.
We tried to feed him lunch but he wouldn't have any of it. I thought maybe I was feeding him spaghetti again and he remembered he just threw it up last night. I then heat him up some Boston Market chicken soup but he won't have any of it either. I guess I gave Ky-An too much credit for recognizing the spaghetti..hehe. He looked pretty tired so we thought maybe he's tired and so he's not hungry. I tried to put him down for his nap but he would only crawl around the bed for an hour. Instead of fighting with him this time, I brought him outside for Hieu and surrender. Turned out it's because he had a poopy diaper. He only slept for an hour after that and was cranky the rest of the day. Hieu watched Ky-An even though he had work to do because I was so exhausted I needed a nap. I was getting dizzy so Hieu took him to Wal-mart to get stuff while I took a nap.
In other news, we bought him some washable crayons and markers last week and he LOVES playing with them. I know it's just a matter of time we get them all over the wall but we already expected that.
Oops, Ky-An is crying, gotta run. Literally.

Eventful day
We took Ky-An and my nephew to the Moody Gardens Aquarium in Galveston today. Even though tt took us 2 hours to get there and back, and they only spent an hour at the aquarium, they still had a blast. Ky-An had a good morning nap but only get about 1/2 hour for his afternoon nap on the way there. He usually gets about 2-3 hours in the afternoon. He was fine when we got to the aquarium and after one hour, both kids were tired so I thought for sure he would sleep on his way back. I was hungry so we stopped at Sonic and he wanted my sister to feed him his food the whole time. (She was sitting in the back with him and my nephew).
After we got back, my sister left my nephew with us to go out to dinner with some friends for her birthday. We figure it'll be good practice for us to handle two kids also. Hieu went out to get some spaghetti for the kids and we fed both of them. Ky-An looked pretty tired by then so I decide to give him a bathe and put him to bed. I was so sure since he stayed up 2 hours past his bedtime the night before and the lack of sleep today would make him conk out right away. Boy was I wrong!! I don't know if it's a mistake to give my nephew and him a bath at the same time or not because he was hyper after that. Maybe it's too much out of his routine, because not only did he took a bath with his cousin, we also put him in the big bathtub and he was always in his inflatable one. He got scared and didn't like to very much.
So after our bedtime routine and I chased him around the bed for an hour. I tried singing to him, laying still and pretend to sleep, but nothing worked. He keep kicking me trying to crawl everywhere. Even though I had my hands to keep him from kicking my stomach whenever he gets near, there are still some accidental one. I hope my little bean is okay. Anyways back to my battle with Ky-An, after chasing him around I got tired and tried to held him down hoping that will calm him down and he'll go to sleep. Nope, he got really mad and keep crying. I thought..okay, maybe he just needs to cry and get it out of his system then get tired and go to sleep. After all cry-it-out moms do it all the time right? I let him cry for no more than 2 minutes (I am sure because it seemed like an eternity to me) while I lay there pretending to sleep. After a bit I felt bad so I got up and held him. I walked around with him trying to calm him down but he got more upset because he wanted to go outside and play. After a bit, he started coughing and throwing up. I ran out of the room because he was turning red, borderline blue. I called out to Hieu and once Hieu got there Ky-An was okay again. Poor guy was really scare after that and was crying even harder. I had to hold him close to me, spaghetti puke and all. I fet so bad for him, he was trembling. After calming him down and everyone got changed, I let him stay outside to play for a bit because he would cry everytime I head towards the room. Finally I gave him something to play to distract him and took him to the room and gave him some milk. He was still rolling around a bit and the darn bottle fell to the bottom of the bed. I had to get on my stomach to get it so he can take the rest of the bottle to go to sleep. I know I am not suppose to in my state but it was so hard to get him the room and calm him down, I didn't want to risk opening the door to call Hieu for help. Well after taking that last of the milk, he finally went to sleep.
I thought I am good for the night and was relaxing in the study when Hieu called me because he's crying. I hate it when I am not listening on the monitor because by the time Hieu called me, he has cried for a long time and it's hard to calm him down once he gets to that state. If I hear him, I can get him back to sleep before he gets too upset. I got in there and of course he was hysterical. I had to pick him up and walk him around to calm him. It took about 10 minutes of me shushing him and talking to him calmly. I realize that I have to remind myself to take deep breathes and calm down whenever I comfort him or he gets even more upset. That's very hard to do whenever you have a crying baby in your arms. I walk around humming and talking to him. After I feel that he had laid his head on my shoulder and hasn't move for a while, I'll move him the a craddling position. Walk around for about 5 minutes more in that position before I can put him back to bed. Laid next to him for about 5 minutes more then leave the room. If I transfer him to the craddling position to soon or move him to the bed too soon, he'll cry and it's harder this time to calm him down. It's the same old drill everytime he wakes up and we are not in bed yet. That's why I would rather grit my teeth and hold him for an extra 5 minutes even though my arms are burning, then have to hold him for another 20 because he's not really asleep yet. That was my Saturday. Needless to say I am exhausted. I am just waiting for my siter to pick up my nephew and Hieu and I are going to crash.

Home Daycare vs Nanny
Hieu and I are still trying to decide whether we should look for nanny for both of our kids or just have our current babysitter watches both of them. As I mentioned before, my babysitter can't come to our house to watch the kids because her niece will have a baby in June and she can't abandon her. She said she can watch both babies because by the time I drop mine off, that other one will be 7 months. Furthermore, her niece has a strict policy of the babysitter not holding her unless she needs to be fed or changed. It's some Asian belief that if you hold them to much they get spoiled. I think it's sad. I still don't know if she can handle both babies and Ky-An so if we do decide to stay with her, we'll have to watch her carefully to make sure she can handle it. If she can't it would suck because I would've like for the nanny to come over while I am on maternity leave so I can see how she interacts with my kids. If we decide after I've already been back to work that our babysitter can't handle it, I'll won't have that chance to observe the new nanny.
We are still going back and forth on the idea and so I've made up a pros table on each to help me decide.
My sisters think I should go ahead and stick with my babysitter if she can handle it. They said that it's very hard to find someone you can trust totally with your kids and once you find one, you should stick to them.

Ky-An gave me a scare!
I went to talk to the babysitter today about our situation to see if I can somehow change her mind to come to our house and watch our kids. I didn't think it work, by the way, because she felt like she can't abandon her niece no matter how mad she is at her.
So I after I talked to her I picked up Ky-An early to go home. I was technically suppose to be working from home so I put him down in the family room where his toys are and ran to the study to check on my email real quick. I was in there no more than 5 minutes because I had to reply to some work-related stuff. I went back to the family room to prepare his food for dinner and don't see him anywhere! I start calling out for him and he replied in his babble. I looked in the kitchen, walked to the laundry room..no Ky-An. I am starting to get a bit worry but not too much because he's still happily babbling when I call out to him. I know he's fine and I just need to find him. I went into our bedroom, look in between the couches, under the couches but no Ky-An. Finally I heard him again and it sound like it's coming from UPSTAIRS!!!! I ran upstair and sure enough, there is he happily sprawling out on the floor. Thank goodness he didn't slip or fall or I will just die. I know we need a gate at the stairs and we did buy them already but our stairs are odd shape and Hieu has to do some modification in order for the gate to fit right. I just need to be more mindful now that I have a mobile baby. He's never been mobile before so I am just not used to how quick he can be. Thank you god for letting him be safe!
