A Week of Bargain Hunting

I am so obssess about this whole couponing concept that I've been checking the hotcouponworld.com website all week and hardly did any work. Ooops. I was so excited when the weekend roll around that I asked Hieu to go out and get me a newspaper on Saturday so I can get started on my coupon clipping.

I was on the website relentlessly all week and got these great deals this week:

I went to CVS on Sunday and got a Colgate toothpaste, Tylenol, Motrin, Mylanta, and 2 Carefree packages for only $7.77! I earned $9.77 Extra Care Bucks (ECB) which are money you can use at their store so that mean they paid me $2 for all that stuff!

We went grocery shopping on Sunday and Hieu wanted to make spaghetti so we saved $2.30 on the sauce that he wanted to use.

On Wednesday I read about a good deal at Target and I discover that I have those coupons so I head to Target for lunch. I got a jumbo package of Pampers Feel and Learn and a pack of Kandoo wipes for $1.54! I am saving it for when Ky-An is getting toilet trained later. I just wish I have more of these coupons to get more of them!

I went on a bargain hunting trip on Thursday and found some Gerber Graduates food on clearance at CVS that won't expire until 2009. I got it for free after coupons.

Then I went to Krogers and got some Johnson & Johnson bath bars for free since those coupons are expiring this month. Those bars are regular price for 99 cents and the coupon was for $1 off. I got 5 of them!

I went to Target after that and got some swimming diapers and a 210-ct wipe for $5.26

I stopped by another CVS to see if they have those Colgates that were on sale for free after the Extra Care Bucks but didn't find any. I saw a sign forWisk detergent for $4.49 - $2 ECB so it's only $2.49! That's a great deal so I grabbed one and head to the register. When the manager rang it up, I didn't see the $2 ECB so I asked him about it. I told him I saw a sign that advertise it. He asked me to show him so I did and he said that the promotion is old and took down the sign. We head back to the register and he gave me $2 cash for it. After I went to my car, I look at my receipt and notice the detergent was scanned for $6.49 and even with the $2 cash back, it's still more than I wanted to pay for it so I returned the detergent at another CVS on my way home. I didn't know how to explain the $2 cash I got back for it so she refund me the full $6.49 for it. I am not sure if that's being dishonest or not...I hope not because I just want to save money, not cheat. Anyways..for this complicated transaction I got $6.95 back for purchasing a Colgate, some Huggies wash cloths and Johnson & Johnson lotion on clearance.

I went to Randall's and used some coupons there too. Got Popsicles for 34 cents, even though the melted when I stopped at another CVS on my way home. I got 2 bottles of French spicy mustard for 25 cents and 2 boxes of pastas for 50 cents.

My last stop was at Babies R' Us to get Ky-An some diapers but I discovered they sold it way expensive and they don't even have Ky-An's size so back to Target I went. I got him a box of 120-count diapers for $25. Not the best price but at least it's cheaper than what I usually get for him and we needed it. I also collected a lot of coupons from those coupon machines in the stores that has blinking lights (they are call blinkies believe it or not).

Whew..too much shopping for me this week! I try to watch what I buy and not buy something we don't normally just because it's cheap. I saw some Schick razors on clearance and could buy it for $2 with my coupon but stopped myself because I realize I wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't on clearance. My rule is that if it's not free or under $1 then I won't buy it, unless we really need it. If we have a coupon for that necessity then it's even sweeter.

It's funny that I am here excited about saving a few buck but would plop down $165 for Ky-An's swim lessons and $20 for a newspaper subscription without batting an eye.

5 New teeth and pregnancy update!

We discovered that Ky-An has five teeth growing at the same time today!!! Oh my goodness, my poor baby. No wonder he has been so cranky and can't sleep. He has 2 growing next to his canines on each side and a molar on the bottom left. They have all broke through and we can see little white points everywhere. That sure explain a lot! I gave him some Motrin tonight and he slept really well so I guess those darn teeth are bothering him. My little boy is going to have a mouth full of teeth soon!

On the pregnancy front, there is not much happening here. I am getting more tired and more uncomfortable as I approach my third trimester. Ai-Vy is wiggling around more now and doesn't kick as much. I guess she's running out of room in there..hehe. She's making me more exhausted with her constant wiggling and kicking but I am not complaining. She's doing well and I am thankful for that. I will get to schedule my c-section date at my next doctor's visit. I suspect it will be set for mid-September or something. Can you believe it's coming up??!!! Argghhhh, I don't even want to think about it.

Update on babysitter

Thanks to Pei Sze for pointing out to me there are worst things your kid's caregiver can do than accidentally give your child bad milk. I guess I was emotional because of hormones. My nephew's old babysitter would strap him to the carseat all day and won't let him out so he can't get to things. My sister didn't realize this until he's been there for a year! Poor kid.

Ky-An slept so bad this whole weekend that I asked my babysitter how she put Ky-An to sleep normally since he seem to sleep okay at her house. I suspect that the inconsistency in our routines may be what's causing his fussiness. After all, all the experts said that toddlers need and crave routines right?

Well I was shock to find out that my 60 something year old babysitter still holds Ky-An until he falls asleep!!!! ARGHHHHH!!! I can't even do that anymore! She said she feels bad for him when he's on the bed and starts fussing for her to hold him. Even though I said he only does ot for 30 second or 1 minute then settle down to go to sleep, she said she still can't stand it. *Shaking my head and laughing.* She said since he's the only one there this summer, she can indulge and spoil him. What can you do when she wants to spoil your child right? If she can stand holding her then that's fine with me. I know I won't be doing it at home (or can't any longer) so he'll have to learn.

She also went out and bought him some clothes this weekend because they looked so cute. Goodness that's so sweet of her. It's one of the many sweet gestures from our babysitters so it make all my doubts about her goes away. She has also insist that we only pay her $100/week since Ky-An doesn't take up much of her time anymore. She offered that when he turned one but I told her to keep the rate since she's cooking lunch and dinner for him. She kept the money but keeps buying stuff for him such as toys and milk (he drinks organic).

My big worry now is when she'll be watching a 6-month old, Ai-Vy, Ky-An, and 2 older girls next year. She keep assuring us that she can handle it and her daughter will be home to help her. I will have to keep a close eye on how the kids are and play it by ears. Even though I have these concerns, I still want to give her a chance because I know no one else will care for and love my kids as much as her.

Ky-An won't sleep!

Ky-An was such a bad napper this weekend, I am not sure what's wrong. He nap for only about 30 minutes each time on Friday and Saturday. Then on Sunday while we were out grocery shopping, I figure maybe he's doesn't need 2 naps that's why he's not sleeping much so we let him skip his morning one. We went to all these stores while I shopped and bargain-hunt. Went to eat Pho for lunch and got him home at about 1p.m. Well I tried for 2 hours until 3 p.m. but he refused to sleep! He just got more and more wired and can't settle down. I finally gave up and took him out of the room. Hieu took him for an hour walk but it didn't help either. He just won't settle down to sleep.

You'd think he'll be tired by the evening so I did his bedtime routine a little bit early so he can get some rest. I was in the bedroom with him for another 2 hours and he just won't sleep. I had to get out to prepare the steaks to cook since my parents are coming over for a late Father's Day celebration and to also celebrate my sister's birthday. Hieu took him for a drive and he finally fell asleep after 40 minutes drive! Hieu said he has to drive to Rosenberg, which is a city right next to us. He finally slept as I was preparing dinner and spent some time with my mom, dad, and aunt. However, he kept crying throughout the night and woke up at 4:30 the next morning!

I hope he's getting some rest at the babysitter. I am going to ask her what her how she gets him to sleep today. Maybe the inconsistency is what's causing him to not sleep. I'll have to work out with her a plan to be consistent with him during naptimes.

As Ky-An is getting more comfortable with his swimming lessons, I let Hieu took over this past weekend and be in the water with him while I sat at the poolside. Poor guy keep looking at me and whined. I guess daddy is not doing it right yet. I am sure he'll be used to Hieu soon enough and as I get bigger, I have to get him to be less dependent on him. He's so sweet though..poor guy. :(

Friday at home with Ky-An

It's my every other Friday off today and I get to spend it with Ky-An. I decide to take him to his first trip to the library today and was excited to see how he would react to it. I took him to our county branch library and was impress they have a separate kid's section that is apart from the adult's. They have a section with educational toys there for the kids to play with. When we got there it wasn't so crowded so Ky-An get to explore most of the toys by himself. I gave him a duck puppet and he was so happy with it he walked around with it and grinning for a while.

Then more kids get in and they were playing with different toys. Some of the kids are so mean and I didn't know how to react to it! There was this farm house with plastic animals and people in it. This little girl was playing with it and Ky-An would ran up and try to grab an animal. She would push all the animals in way deep so he can't reach it. He went to try and get another one and she would move over and push them in before he can get them. She was about 3 or 4 years old and her mom is really nice so I didn't want to make a big deal. I know if she caught her doing that she would have yelled at her daughter. Well I was a bit flustered because I've never deal with unsharing strange kids before. If my niece or nephew did that, I would just yell or lecture them to share. I was unsure of what to do with other people's kid who I don't know so I just told the little girl nicely "you can share" and take an animal for him. Her mom overheard me and ask her if she's not sharing. She said well he keep taking it away. I felt a bit guilty because I don't know if Ky-An is wrong for taking the animals from the farm house and I am a bad mom for not making him stop. I didn't think anything of it because there were many animals for her to play with and he likes to carry the toy around for a bit then put it back.

I still felt guilty and unsure of myself so after a few minutes, I made him put the animal back and get him to move to another toy. He was the Lego table and excitedly run to it. Another little girl was playing on it and use her body to cover the table as soon as she saw him running over. He ran to this side and that and she just use her body to block him each time. I was frustrated by this bad behavior and not sure what to say so I just move him to something else yet again. I saw some plastic dinosaurs and gave it to him to play with. He got so excited, who knew he loves those dinosaurs so much???!! Well he got worked up with the dinos and start screaming. He doesn't understand it when I shushed him or stop when I cover his mouth. LOL. Luckily we were in the children's section so it didn't bother people too much but I decide it's time for him to go anyway. Needless to say I didn't get any books for him because I didn't get chance to browse. I also don't see much cardboard books and I know he'll tear up the regular ones. Maybe he's not ready for library books yet. The total time we spent at the library? One hour! :)

A whole new world...

I discover a whole new world today..a world of couponing. I got introduced to the website hotcouponworld.com and am hooked!! I found 2 coupon envelopes these ladies at work left in the break room and took them both to start my collection. I am so excited to start and can't wait until this weekend so I can go get my Sunday paper and start clipping my own coupons. I've started organizing them in envelopes but then read on the board on how these other ladies organized their coupons so Hieu to me to Wal-mart afterwork and got me the baseball card inserts so I can put my coupons in. I spent the whole day yesterday filling out dividers and organizing my coupons. Today I spent the whole day organizing my few coupons in the new binder. It's time-consuming but I know this is how I can keep my grocery budget. I am trying so hard to stay within budget for grocery this week so I am excited to see how next week will turn out. I have been itching for Sunday to get here so I can see what kind of coupons are in the inserts and go grocery shopping for some good deals.

I never knew about "making money" with CVS, adding coupons on top of clearance or sale items, and stockpiling. I am jus so thrill to discover this whole new world and hope I can get lots of good deals with the least OOP money (that's Out-of-Pocket). I am getting the lingo down also. LOL.

Bad milk???!!!

Hieu found out today that Ky-An has been drinking expired milk!!! He came to pick Ky-An up and our babysitter informed him he didn't want to drink much milk today and that the milk look a little funny. She said it's runnier than normal so Hieu went to take a look at it and the sell by date was expired several days ago. He told her she can't give him these expired milk and she said her husband or children usually check it for her. Granted this time it may not be so bad because it's the "sell by" date and not the "used by" date but I am still upset. I suspect that the last time he had diahrrea was because of these bad milk also. No wonder whenever he sees the sippy cup he started whining! My poor little helpless guy. All this time I thought he whined because he doesn't want to drink his milk and go to sleep.

Maybe it's my pregnancy hormones and I am overreacting, I don't know. It just makes me question how competent she really is and makes me question what else she's oblvious to. Is he eating what he's suppose to over at her house or play with toys that are not safe for him? Is she keeping an eye on him all the time to make sure he doesn't get into trouble? Would she honestly tell me if he does? He comes home with little bruises and mosquito bites on his legs and I felt so bad for him. I know he runs around and play with the other kids and that's just part of being a toddler but it still pains me to realize I can't control his environment. I know this can be an honest mistake because we've accidentally give him bad milk before also but there's several other incidents before that makes me question her, such as the gun incident and the ant bites. I know she and her family loves Ky-An to death and would never do anything to deliberately harm him. However, can I live with the accidental possibilities? And can I find anyone that can take care of him flawlessly? Even if my parents can watch him, I am not sure if they can do a better job. They are impatient with children and may spank him or something. That is something I know my babysitter won't do because she loves him too much. Not that I mind her disciplining him if he's bad, I just don't like the way my parents hit out of anger sometimes.

I am reconsidering hiring a nanny to come to our house when Ai-Vy comes . I just want to be able to be sure they are in a safe environment that I can provide for them. Of course the big question still is, will the love my kids as much as my babysitter and her family? That's a really rare thing and it's priceless. Even if I provide my kids with a great environment, if the person watching them is not nurturing or loving then it's pointless. Can I get the best of both worlds? Even if I stay home, I don't know if I can be the flawless, nurturing caretaker I am looking for. I know there will be times that I will lose my patience with the kids and that's something unacceptable for my babysitter. Am I just expecting too much? Ugh..I just hope there are no more incidents that make me question her. It's really hard to find someone you can completely trust with your kids.

This is probably one of my favorite picture. He just love this turtle singing and dancing toy I got him and gets so happy whenever he turns it on:

Here's one of the summer outfit we got for him and he looks so cute in it, Hieu had to take a picture. Notice how the hat barely cover his head.

I have a wonderful husband!

My January board did a funny post about "Selling your Husband" and we are suppose to post a wanted ad for our husbands. We also have to disclose his flaw so that they are aware and don't try to make returns. Of course none of us would want to sell our husbands but it was fun. This is what I posted:
**For Sale OBO**
5'8 Asian male with huge brown eyes and love kids. He will make you and your sister coffee every morning in the thermos and get you ready for work. He will wake up with the kids every morning without a complaint and gives them a bath every night. He will be there for every child's doctor visits and every prenatal exams. He doesn't spend much money but will give you every expensive things your heart desire. He will love your family more than his own and will happily do everything for them..from fixing your little sister's car, taking your dad to the ER, or put up with your mom indefinitely while she work out her problems with dad. He will care for and take care of your nieces and nephews like his very own. If you give him a list, he will run all the errands and do all the grocery shopping for you so you never have to. He does and fold laundry, wash dishes and bottles almost every day, wash your car, and pick up food. He never expects you to do anything around the house if you don't feel up to it. He'd rather you sit on the couch and rest. He will let you hire a maid and a cook of you guys can afford it. He never questions your parenting style or what you want to do with the kids. Above all, he's super handy around the house and can build your baby his/her very own changing table. He can also sew so you petite ladies can have someone in your house hemming up all your pants! He sew all the pillows and cushions in our home. He can also do flower arrangements and loves to take you to musical plays.

He does have a slight slouch and procrastinates but that also makes him very laid back. He's very forgetful and while that could be frustrating at times, you will always win fights because he never what he said 10 minutes ago. He's messy but will pick up after himself if you ask enough and his workshop in the garage is spotless. He has a demanding and highly hormonal wife so you don't have to do much for him to realize he's better off.

Other exampes of why he's such a wonderful husband. The other week my dad had an awful stomach ache and needed to go to the ER. My sister (the one who lives with my parents) had to go to work so she called and ask if Hieu can take him. It was about 10 in the morning and Hieu was in the family room peacefully playing with Ky-An. I asked if he can take my dad to the ER and he jump up said "sure", grab his keys and left. I was pleasantly surprise. I thought he would at least ask him some questions such as "what happened? Is he okay? etc". I guess he figure if I said my dad needs to go the ER and that's good enough for him.

He was initally the only one supportive of my older sister, Tran, when she got pregnant and wanted to raise the baby on her own. We were all thinking of what would be best for my sister, only Hieu was thinking of what's best for the baby. For that, she's eternally grateful to him. He has always been there for my nephew since the beginning. When my sister gave birth, he was the first of the family to visit her during his lunchtime. After that whenever Ethan needs to go to the ER for falling off the counter or for vomitting, he was there giving my sister a ride or wait in the waiting room to make sure he's okay.

Whenever any of my sisters got in a car accident or has car trouble, he'll be there to take care of things for them. When my little sister got hit by the van and they were trying to pick on her trying to make her thing it's her fault, he was there to yell at those bullies and tell them to back off. When my oldest sister and her now husband total their car in the rain, we went to their house and take them to the ER since they initially refused to go.

He also comes home everyday from work and pick up Ky-An, plays with him until I got home. I play with Ky-An for a bit and Hieu will give him a bath. He is forgetful about everything else, such as our conversation 10 minutes ago, but he never forgets to drop off or pick up our son. He also never forget to give him water and snacks while they play. No matter how late he asleeps, he will wake up and take Ky-An outside to play so I can get some extra sleep. Even if Ky-An wakes up at 4 in the morning and Hieu just went to sleep at 1 in the morning. He enjoys this time with Ky-An and never ask me to take over for him. Sweet guy.

He's super handy around the house and I just don't know how I'd manage without him. Last year there was a leak in my sister's room after a thunderstorm and he figured out where the leak is, caulk up the window and repaired the leak. Last month the control panel to our sprinkler system stopped working. He figured out what's wrong, went to Home Depot to get a new panel and rehooked the sprinklers back to the control and reconfigured it himself. This past weekend our AC leaked down to the floor. He figured out that the pipes were backed up due to algae, cut that part of the pipe out and went to Home Depot to get more pcp pipes. He reconstruct the piping, sawder them together, and got our AC working again. This week one of our sprinkler head is spilling out water. He suspected it was the pipe leaking so he went out to the yard to dug through the grass and get to the pipe. He found the part of the pipe that was cracked and the rock that caused it. He went to Home Depot (his favorite store), got the parts, and fixed it. Amazing!

My little sister suggested we have a bar-b-que at home so he spent the whole Saturday cleaning the pool so we can use it on Sunday. He also went to the grocery market to get all the stuff on Sunday, cleaned the bar-b-que pit, and cooked for everyone. He got heatstroke as the result of that and I was totally unsympathetic. I know I know...meanie wife.

Hieu wanted to go to eat for lunch today but I wasn't feeling up to it. He then wanted to go out for dinner but I didn't want to keep Ky-An up because he was too tired. We end up just having Red Lobster to-go with my sister and her boyfriend. I hope you still had a good Father's Day babe! I will do a better job next year. Thanks for putting up with me. I love you!

So proud of my little man!

Ky-An did so well at his swimming lesson this week. He actually reached out for the instructor and smiled at her. He only whined for a little bit but no crying. She even dunk him a little longer and deeper and he did very well. I am so proud of him! He is still a little apprehensive about the slide and doesn't enjoy it as much as he used to. That's understandable considering it hurt him last week. Another little girl almost bang her head on the slide this week also. Makes me think that maybe it's not so safe after all.

He also played with his cousins so well this weekend and is so good at sharing! That's surprising to me at this age but that's my man! He didn't throw a fit or grab his toys back when his cousins are playing with them. In fact whenever Yvonne is playing with a toy he likes, he just runs up to the toy and go around her to reach the part that she's not playing with. He doesn't shove her aside or anything! When all his older cousins were playing with his Bounce and Spin Zebra, he just wait patiently for his turn and get off when we told him to. Even when Yvonne took his favorite snack cup, he just follows he around to get some snack but doesn't try to yank it back or cry to us about it. Only when he thought she was leaving with his snack cup is when he starts crying. So cute.

Happy Birthday Hoa!!!

Today is my younger sister's 26th birthday. Where has our little baby sister go??!!! My oldest sister, Thuy, came down this weekend also for her friend's bridal shower. I just love seeing my nieces and my sister! (Oh her husband also..hehe.) My younger sister had a lunch party at her boyfriend's family restaurant, Kim Son. They have the yummiest dim sum around and it taste better free..hehe.

My oldest sister, Thuy, brought down 2 more plastic bins of the girls' old clothes so I spent most of the weekend sorting them out, organizing them in the dresser, and hung them up. This is more preparing than I've ever done for Ky-An at this point. Mainly because Lan-Vy's tragedy was still fresh in our mind and we didn't want to go through the drama of putting the stuff up again. Even though we didn't set any of the gears nor clothes out for Ky-An, we knew exactly where everything is going to go because we already had those places set for Lan Vy. With Ai-Vy, I had to make room and make sure we have a place for all her stuff in our room. That's right, all their stuff resides in our room for now. Hopefully they'll be moved out in 2 years or so! LOL.

I've also decide to try and get rid of Ky-An's old clothes instead of saving them because they are just taking up so much room! I guess that means we've also decide for now to stick with two kids. Putting ourselves on a budget clear things up somewhat for me. We just can't afford to have more kids and provide for them the way we wanted to. In addition, three surgeries are scary enough for me and I just don't feel like risking it anymore. I want to be here and see my kids grow up. I feel if we are going to have a third child then we should fulfill my dream of adopting one. Of course I am still giving myself until I am 35 to take any permanent measures but I think I am done with surgeries for now. If we do have a third child then the new baby will need new gears and clothes by then anyway.

Here are some pictures:

Yummy!! Dim Sum!

As usual, his nap and routines are all out of whack when we have family visiting. Poor guy is so tired!

Doctor's Visit

I went in for my check-up today and got my glucose test. Even though the drink is yucky and the blood drawn is not fun, I don't see how people on the September '07 board would want to opt out of it. I think it's an important test to know. Anyways, I scheduled the first appointment of the day as usual thinking it would be less hectic at her office. I was wrong today, I didn't get to see her until 11 o' clock and my appointment was for 9:30 a.m. She apologized and informed me that she had 4 emergencies this morning..bleeding after bleeding. Even though I was frustrated I had to wait so long and it's not comfortable for me to sit at one place anymore, I am glad I am not an emergency. I will happily wait for that. I felt bad for those other women who my doctor said were bleeding. I hope everything is okay with their babies.

I think that's why my doctor loves us. :P We are very understanding when she has an emergency and is behind schedule. Other people just complain and give the staff a hard time like it's their fault. One time we had to wait 3 hours because there were complications with one of her deliveries. I am just glad that it's not us holding her up and if someone else has an emergency with their baby, by all means please take care of them before me. I would want her to take care of me first if something is wrong.

I've gained 7 pounds so far. My original weight is 115 and I am now 122. Can you believe I weighed 95 pounds at my wedding!!! I am not sure I'll ever be that again..boo hoo. Everything looks great and my doctor is very happy (especially with all the bleeding she saw all morning). Baby looks well and measuring great. She estimate her to be 1 pound 13 ounces now. Another boring appointment and I love it!

Budget Smudget

This is my second month trying to stick to my budget and it's not working so well either. I am already over on some categories and it's only the middle of the month. At this rate I don't really know how we are going to afford paying the extra amount for Ai-Vy's babysitting. I know why we are going over and I know WHAT we need to cut back. The problem is I don't see HOW!

The first category we need to cut back is grocery. I see why we had a problem sticking to that last weekend when we went to the Asian supermarket and I bought all these expensive exotic fruits. That's what I crave..what can I do??!! :P Everyone keep telling me that I need to feed my craving or my daughter is going to come out drooling so I am just following orders. Plus you can't control a pregnant woman's cravings right? In addition to my expensive fruits, the Asian supermarket never has a sale like the American ones. I can't clip coupons or wait for something to be on sale to buy it. I need all these stuff at the store and it's the same price regardless if I buy it or not. I have to send Hieu to the grocery store sometimes and he's not the most consciencious shopper. He'll stray off the list and get things on impulse that way. He has wasted a lot of food that way and I've been getting him on that but it doesn't seem to help.

The second category we need to majorly cut back is dining out. I know by cooking more I can bring this down. However even with me preparing everything to cook over the weekend, some days I come home too tired to even think about cooking. Since I am the only person who will cook in the house, if I am not doing it then we are having take-outs. Take-outs is not just for Hieu and I, we have to pay for dinner including my little sister and her boyfriend. Either her boyfriend or Hieu's little brother will join us for dinner so we always have to pay for 4 meals when ordering out. Everyone knows four adult meals on a semi-regular basis can get pricey. I can get Hieu to cook sometimes but he is limited to spaghetti and crawfish boil. You can only eat so much of that right? He's not willing to try new recipes nor want to cook. He said that's not his strong point and doesn't want to try. I do make him help out preparing stuff for me to cook while I put Ky-An to sleep though. Sometimes he does a good job helping, most of the time not.

Whenever we go out to eat with my family or his family, we always end up paying too. There's not post in the Finance Board about this and I don't think they'll understand why we feel obligated to pay anyway. If we take my mom or dad out to eat for a special occasion, the whole family of course is invited (my sisters and their boyfriends). We are the most financially stable couple so the bill fell on our responsibility. My oldest sister is in Dallas and whenever she comes down then she and I will take turn or split the bill. My second oldest sister is a single mom so we rarely let her pay for stuff. The same with my little sister, she is still in school so we don't let her pay for anything either. We don't mind paying for the family but it's a burden on us sometimes, especially when we are trying to be on the budget. For these occassions, we have to shell out at least $50 for a gift and then several hundreds for dinner for everyone. I feel obligated to take them out to eat when it's their birthday, etc or we will never see each other.

I guess this is more of a vent post because I really don't know what we can do to stick to our budget. It stresses me out sometimes and I just want to put more toward savings. I guess we'll just have to rely on extra money like we usually do to fund our savings. At this rate I don't even know if we can afford to put in the extra money for Ai-Vy's education fund! I have faith it will all work out though..it always does.

Swimming lesson

Ky-An had a dramatic experience swimming today. First of all, can I just say how frustrating it is that he's in class with all new babies and he's still the only one crying??!!! Okay on to the dramatic experience. Ky-An usually is okay with the slide that goes into the water. If we just put him on the top then he'll scoot himself down the slide into the water where I am waiting to catch him. Well we are suppose to do it 2 times and the first time I wasn't ready when Hieu put him on the slide so the poor boy went all the way to the bottom of the pool!!!! I freaked out but tried to stay calm as I reach down the water to grab him. I think I would have a panic attack if I couldn't feel him. In reality, it's about 5 seconds but it felt like several minutes for me. I think it was a much scarier experience for us and everyone around than for him. He came of the water just fine, like that's how it's suppose to be all the time and didn't fuss or seem scare. Of course the instructor has to be right there when that happened and she assured the other new parents "don't worry, you don't have to do that. He's just been here for a while."

The second time we put him on the slide we heard a loud "CRACK"!! My heart skip a beat because I thought for sure he had hit his head on the pool wall or something. Of course he came out wailing this time with everyone in class is looking at us and I felt like the worst mom ever. Hieu assure me he only hit the plastic slide and since it's hollow, it sounds worst than the bump really is. After thinking about it, I think Hieu may be right because Ky-An only cried for a few seconds (probably from being scare more than hurt) and I didn't feel nor see any bump afterward. Hieu doesn't know why he was laid back when he was sliding down causing the head bump. He usually never does that so we are not sure what happened. Maybe HE wasn't ready this time. I was afraid he may see the slide and get scare from now on so we put him on it a couple more times with me holding on to him the entire way. He fussed a little bit at first but I think he got over it.

NOT a lazy Sunday

What a crazy weekend this week has turn out to be. I had no rest whatsoever!! Yesterday we went to Babies R' Us to get Ky-An some clothes from their big sale and then we went grocery shopping. Today was suppose to be a relaxing day but my little sister wanted a bar-b-que and Hieu wanted to swim so there goes our day. Hieu had to go to the grocery store to get all the food and here I am preparing them so he can throw it on the grill.

Since I am trying to stick to our budget, I bought a bunch of grocery to cook yesterday and have been on my feet all day trying to prep all the meat so I don't have to do it afterwork next week. I am a marinating, cutting, and freezing mad woman! It's sooo tiring!

Ky-An was out swimming with my sister's boyfriend, Uncle Chi, and daddy for about an hour or so while I am having my prep marathon. I finally came out and fed him plus swam a little. Poor boy starts fussing and I lift up his sunglasses to find his eyes are half-closed. He didn't take a very good morning nap and it's already 3p.m. We were trying to have him wait for his cousin Bao to come and they can swim together but my poor man is just too tired. I took him in to change him and put him to sleep. The boy was out in the sun for about 2 hours and got all dark!!! I took off his swim shorts and he's dark inside-out even though we lathered him up with sunblock before he goes into the pool each time and a hat. I need to get him one of those sunscreen swim shirt before I can let him swim in our pool again. I think he had a good time but mommy and daddy are just so tired!
