Ky-An's development at 20 months

  • He can sing the alphabet song but only the "eeeee" letters. "uh...b..uh..d...eeeeeeeeee..uh...geeeeeeeeeeeeee"

  • His new favorite thing to say is "oh-no". He also learn the chorus to Johann Strauss, "The Blue Danube" (http://www.page.sannet.ne.jp/mnagai/midihtm/danube.htm). He takes everyday sounds like "no", "cho", "two" etc... and goes no-no---no---no-no---no-no---no-no... People says he's music inclined... I said no... he learned that from a singing cow:)

  • He loves it when you make musical sounds and sing along to any song I sing to him. Sometimes he'll have his hands up ready for me to finish so he can clap.

  • He loves it when I sing "Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey good bye!". He'll crack up laughing and bob his head to it. Whenever he wants me to sing the song, he'll come up to me and bob his head.

  • He can follow directions pretty well. He can throw things in the trash, turn off lights and TVs, close doors, go give things to mommy/daddy, and put things away.

  • He has a new obsession with turtles and frogs. When ever he sees a picture of one or sees one in real life, he gets so excited.

  • He would cry with tears streaming down his face if Hieu or I are not in the car with him. It has to be both of us. Waking up in the morning also, mommy and daddy has to come outside with him.

  • He says so many words now I am having trouble keeping up. He can point to his feet and say "chan", "tay" for hands, and to his stomach to say "bung". He can also say "nuoc chay" for water running, and "chim bay" for birds flying. He can repeat and say lots of words now "coc" for frog, "guuuua" for turtle, "oc" for snail, "ngai" for grandma, "quat" for fan, "goi" for pillow, "tam" for bath, "nong" for hot, "men" for blanket, "giay" for shoes, "owww", "ewww", "em bu" for baby breastfeeding, "no more", "dachie", "buom buom" for butterfly, and "nhay nay" for right here.
  • He would put his finger to his mouth and goes "zzzzhhhhh" whenever he thinks the baby is sleeping.
  • He knows the tune to a lot of songs and would walk around singing them.

  • If you tell him "big squeeze", he'll run to you for a hug then says "weeze".

  • He loves to say "bye bye". If he had a good night's sleep, he'll wave and say "bye bye" to me on the bed the entire time as he dad carry him outside. Hieu took him to church this morning and as he see people walking up to get their communion, he waved and say "bye bye" to each of them. Very cute.

  • He will go off to play on his own and then suddenly run back going "oh no, oh no, oh no" until he sees one of us. He'll then run to us and give us a hug.

  • It's hard to feed him now. He'll give us a dramatic "Noooooooo" whenever he see food coming.

  • He would race us to get the baby whenever she cries and tries to kiss her when she's laying on the ground or out in the family room.

  • He loves to kiss the baby and point to her and say "baby" or "em" for little sister. He would also point at her co-sleeper and say the same thing then grin really big.

  • He loves giving his little sister the bottle. If he sees a bottle, he'll try to put it in her mouth. I have to watch him on that one.

  • Whenever Hieu lay out one of Ky-An's blanket to change to baby on the floor. Ky-An would run over and lay next to his sister.

  • He loves to dance and would dance to anything with music. He especially like to spin and make himself dizzy.

  • He would play with his magnetic alphabet and repeat the sound that the letters make.

  • Yesterday he picked up the letter "R" and goes "errgh". Then took the letter to put in the alphabet machine to hear it goes "arrrr". I can't believe he recognized a letter and thought it was a fluke but he said it again in the evening when I asked him.

  • He likes to climb on to things now. He would climb on top of the toy box, the diaper wipe box, his duck, stools, and the sofa.

How quickly they grow. They are like sponges now. Good for him on his speech. Sounds like he's developing just fine. Such a cutie!
